When you arrive for a holistic treatment with AromAware you will be welcomed into a safe, warm and friendly environment in which you can leave all the stresses of the day behind you.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.

Treatment Benefits

Aromatherapy treatments have both physiological and psychological effects. The combination of massage and the medicinal and therapeutic qualities of the essential oils (molecules both inhaled [aroma] and absorbed through the skin) can soothe, revitalise, uplift the spirit, encourage positive thinking and boost the immune system enabling the body to heal itself.

Physiological Benefits

  • Enhance lymphatic drainage – this helps to reduce fluid retention and prevent oedema
  • Induce a feeling of deep relaxation in the body
  • Help to restore balance in the body
  • Stimulate the body’s natural immune system to increase the oxygen and nutrient supply to the tissues by increasing the blood circulation
  • Help to increase energy levels as blockages and congestion in the nerves are eased

Psychological Benefits

  • Promote a general state of well-being
  • Calm and soothe the mind
  • Help to reduce nervous tension
  • Help to lift the mood and reduce feelings of depression

Consultation

A consultation is always completed so I can make the oils for your treatment to suit your needs. This is necessary to gain important information about your medical history, and to ensure the treatment given is suited to your needs. All information recorded is of course, totally confidential. I will then decide on the most appropriate blend of essential oils to use, ensuring a truly bespoke experience. These will be added to a carrier oil and applied to your skin through massage.

The Treatment Session

Relax and enjoy in a newly re-furbished lilac room with the sound of some beautifully relaxing music, candles and aromatherapy oils fragrancing the room. You will remain covered with blankets and/or towels during the massage; only the areas being worked on will be uncovered. The chosen blend will then be gently massaged into the body, so that the essential oils can be absorbed gradually to do their work. It is a deeply therapeutic experience, promoting both deep relaxation and the therapeutic effects of the essential oils. My treatments are ‘Holistic’ focusing on the body as a whole, but you don’t have to have a full body treatment to benefit, it can be customized to a back massage or a head and facial treatment.  At the end of the treatment you are welcome to take any remaining oil  home with you for your continued use.

Appointment Times & Cancellation

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. If you are late I will endeavour to accommodate you but can not promise your full treatment time.

Whilst I understand that it is sometimes necessary to reschedule appointment times, I do ask you to advise me as quickly as possible. Any cancellation made less than 24 hours before your appointment will be charged in full.

After-Care

Immediately after your treatment try and take some time to relax and have some ‘quiet time’ for as long as possible and also:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat a light diet
  • No alcohol, tea, coffee or smoking immediately after treatment
  • No long distance driving immediately after treatment
  • No bath or shower for at least six hours as the essential oils will continue to work, and you will therefore get the best from your treatment.

You may feel tired, thirsty, need to urinate frequently or have a headache.  These are positive results of the treatment as massage makes the body systems function more efficiently by flushing out toxins. If you are worried in any way please do not hesitate to contact me.  If you cannot get in contact with me please contact your doctor for advice.

You might like to make a few notes about any feeling you had and would like to discuss at the next treatment.

Do try and find time for yourself every day if you can – even if its only five or ten minutes to relax.
